JUSTICE FOR IMIGRANTS…a journey of hope

3,500 non-citizens are serving in the U.S. Military.  8,000 permanent resident aliens enlist every year.  Source:  Dept. of Defense website, 3/7/08.  About 7200 service members or people who have been recently discharged have citizenship applications pending which may take as long as 18 mos. to process.  Says Sen. Charles E. Schumer of N.Y.  “These are men and women who are risking their lives for us.  They’ve met all the requirements for citizenship, they have certainly proved their commitment to our country, and yet they could lose their lives while waiting for a bureaucratic snafu to untangle.”  N.Y.
