SAMARITAN SHELTER

Church of the Assumption week for staffing the Samaritan Shelter for the Homeless is Monday, May 12, to Sunday, May 18.  We are in need of seven Overnight Volunteers or Breakfast Servers and a total of 21 volunteers to serve meals one night of the week (three each night).  To be a Breakfast Server, we ask you to serve only an hour or so in the morning.  We also need a family or group to prepare a meal for Sunday evening.  If you can help, please call Paul McNamara, 860-646-0464.

MOTHER’S DAY REMEMBRANCES

The 9:30 AM Mass next week, Sunday, May 11, 2008, Mother’s Day, is the annual Mass for the Mothers, Living or Deceased, of parishioners.  Remembrance Cards for this purpose are available at the doors of the church today.  They should be filled out and returned in the regular collection basket this weekend or at the rectory by this Thursday, May 8th.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

BIRTHRIGHT will distribute baby bottles (one per family) after all Masses Mother’s Day weekend, May 10-11.  We ask that you take the bottles home, fill them with coins, cash, or check and return them on the weekend of May 31-June 1.  As you will see from the insert in the bottle, you may make a donation in honor or in memory of a loved one.  BIRTHRIGHT will send an acknowledgement card of your gift of life.  This is an opportunity for our church families to have hands-on involvement in a project that saves the lives of unborn children and makes a lasting difference in the mothers’ lives.  Thank you for any help you can give.

There will be no collection for the MACC FOOD PANTRY for the month of May.  The Post Office is conducting a Food Drive on Saturday, May 10.  Dale Doll from the Pantry suggests that we support that drive with our donations.  Please leave your contributions at the curb on Saturday, May 10, rain or shine.  Our next collection will be June 15, 2008.  Questions?  Please call Joan Troy, 643-0841.

JUSTICE FOR IMIGRANTS…a journey of hope

Lv. 19:33-34  You shall treat the stranger no differently from the natives born among you, have the same love for him as for yourself; for you too were once strangers in the land of Egypt.  “Immigration policy that allows people to live here and contribute to society, often for years, but refuses to offer them the opportunity to achieve legal status does not serve the common good.”  Source:  The Five Basic Principles of Catholic Social Teaching Relating to Immigration by the U.S.C.C.B.
