This weekend marks the start of the 2008 ARCHBISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL in our parish. Soon you will receive a letter from Archbishop Mansell asking for your support. Together we can make a difference. Our work as a Church in social services, education, healthcare, and pastoral services is exciting, challenging, and fulfilling. It is work we must do together out of love for one another and for God. Please respond as generously as possible.

LENT, 2008

ABSTINENCE THIS WEEK

This week, on Friday, Catholics over 14 years of age may not eat meat.

Soup Supper on Fridays at 6 PM in the Church Hall followed by Stations of the Cross this Friday, March 14, 2008, 6:30 PM, at Church of the Assumption, and at 7 PM at St. James Church.

This year during Lent, we will again participate in Operation Rice Bowl. They will be collected on Palm Sunday.

A Family Lenten Night will be held this Sunday, March 9^th, 2008, 5-7 PM, in the Church Hall. Join families for pizza followed by Lenten/Easter activities. Offering of $5 per family. Questions? Please call 643-7596.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING this Thursday, March 13, 7 PM, in the Church Hall. All interested parishioners are invited to attend.

The next collection for the MACC FOOD PANTRY, which regularly occurs the third Sunday of the month, will be NEXT weekend, March 15-16, 2008. The items most in need are: soups, canned meats, pasta sauce, canned vegetables, canned fruit, jelly, peanut butter and cereals. The Catholic Graduates Club of Greater Hartford, Inc. will award two scholarships of $1000 each to Catholic students who are high school seniors and plan to attend a four year college in the fall of 2008. Only one week left for the Assumption Environment Committee’s 2^nd Annual Art Contest March 1-17. This year’s contest, Don’t Waste or Pollute God’s Resources, is open to children ages 3 to 15.
