Accreditation  The Assumption School faculty and staff would like to thank you, the parents for all of the help and understanding that you have given us during the last two years as we worked on the accreditation process.  At this time the visiting committee has completed there evaluation of our school and we now await the results of their visit.  We are very confident that all of our recommendations and commendations will continue to make Assumption School the place we have all grown to know and love.

    April 9, 2008                                                                                                 Volume IX, Number 29

What a Show it was!  I would like to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to Mr. Chris Munzu and Mrs. Bolduc for helping our students put on a fabulous talent show. Our students put on very enjoyable talent show which provided us with a lot of laughs and musical enjoyment.  Thanks also to Sean & Maggie Munzu for providing the entertainment between acts.  Next year we hope to have more student and parent involvement.

Bingo Team for April 15, 2008                                                                  Kindergarten Parents

BINGO Players Needed!  Please join us at the Assumption Church Hall every Tuesday from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm for a fun evening of Bingo.  Although Bingo does not begin until 6:30 pm, the doors open at 4:00pm, and the kitchen at 5:00pm.  Before the game, you can try one of Bob’s famous burgers, or Romeo’s hot dogs.  In addition, coffee, tea, sundaes and cookies are also available.  Please bring your family, friends, and neighbors.  The proceeds are donated to the Assumption school and are used to support Catholic Education.  If you have any questions, please contact Romeo Dube at 646-1326, or R.Dube1@cox.net.

Celebration of the Arts – Celebration of the Arts will be taking place on Ascension Thursday, May 1st.  Again this year the program will be held at St. Bartholomew’s parish starting with the band program at 6:30 pm followed by the choral program.  The children’s art projects will be displayed in the school hall for viewing both before and after the program.  More information on this program will follow.  The students from grades K – 5 will spend the entire day at the East Campus as we did last year.  Information sheets can be found in the blue folders today.

Gym Uniforms –There will be only one more order placed for gym uniforms this school year.  This order will be placed on April 30th, to be received mid May.  Please keep in mind, as the year end approaches to get your orders in for the 2008 – 2009 school year.  There will be a try on day for next year’s gym uniforms.  Keep reading your newsletters for a date!  Thank you for your cooperation, Tish Boyle, @533-9731.

Summer Uniforms – When we return from vacation the students will be able to wear their summer uniform.  Please check page 31 in the handbook for proper uniform attire.

Fundraising Assessments – We realized that summer camp assessments were inadvertently left our when fundraisings totals were calculated.  If your child attended summer camp, your total will be adjusted and new bills will be sent out.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Little Caesars’ Our eighth grade class is having a Little Caesars fundraiser.  All proceeds will go to the eighth grade class for their graduation activities.  All orders are due tomorrow, April 10th.  The orders will arrive on April 21st.  Parents need to pick up orders from 7 – 8 pm from the garage at the church hall.  Please be sure to pick up your orders as freezers are not available for orders not picked up.

Dental Health Month – On Thursday, April 11th Kevin H. Norige, D.M.D. is offering his services to our students on dental health in a fun and interactive format.  He brings his friend “Roo” (a talking kangaroo), and “George” (his friendly skull) and other information to help children make the best dental health choices.  He will be providing two free presentations to our PreK and Kindergarten classes and then Grades 1 & 2.  We are most grateful for his offer to work with our children.  I’m sure it will not only be very informative but also very entertaining for our children.

Storm Season Is Here: Prepare a Power-Outage Kit

Spring and early summer are the seasons for windstorms, tornadoes, and hail in many parts of the country. If such events are common where you live, prepare yourself by putting together a power-outage kit. Keep it in a water-resistant storage container, in an easily accessible place. The kit should include:

·         Safe light sources such as battery-powered lanterns, flashlights, or area lights. Be sure to have extra batteries, and avoid candles.

·         An assortment of hand tools including pliers, a screwdriver, a cutting blade, and a wire cutter.

·         Duct tape, a utility lighter to light pilot lights, a fire extinguisher, and a first aid kit.

Other items you will want to have are a battery-operated radio for news updates and instructions, a battery-operated clock, prescription medications, and pet supplies. Games and books are great to have around, too, since it could be a long wait before power comes on. If your phones are portable, be aware that they won’t work when the power is out--and you won’t be able to charge your cell phone.
