Sister Elizabeth
Marie and Sister M Gabriel belong to the order of The Sisters of Charity of Our Lady Mother of
the Church (or "SCMC" as we often see written after each of the
Sisters' names). Founded in 1835 and originating in Holland, sisters from
this order first arrived in Connecticut in 1874. The Motherhouse was
established in Baltic, CT and a Manchester branch house was formed in
1960. Assumption School soon followed in 1964 and has been run and
staffed by the Sisters ever since. There are currently under 100 members
of the Sisters of Charity nationwide.
We are very fortunate to have these dedicated Sisters at Assumption
School.
